The authorities at Hirakud Dam have closed five gates following a steady decline in inflow, while eight gates continue to release floodwater into the Mahanadi River.
The decision was taken after reviewing the current water level and downstream conditions.
Officials said the dam management is maintaining controlled discharge to balance reservoir safety and downstream flow. With rainfall subsiding in the upper catchment areas, the water level is gradually stabilising.
Earlier, multiple gates were opened to manage heavy inflow from upstream regions. The current adjustment aims to prevent flooding in low-lying areas while ensuring adequate storage for future rainfall.
The district administration continues to monitor the situation closely, and residents along the riverbanks have been advised to remain alert.
