India is hosting the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting in Bhubaneswar from August 5 to 7, with Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi scheduled to attend.
The meeting, held under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, will bring together ministers, senior officials, and delegates from BRICS nations to strengthen cooperation in education.
The agenda highlights Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Member countries will deliberate on improving foundational learning outcomes and advancing skills development through the BRICS TVET Cooperation Alliance.
Beyond classrooms, discussions will cover collaborative research, innovation, and start‑ups, alongside mutual recognition of academic qualifications and leadership capacity building. These measures aim to foster academic partnerships and ease student mobility across BRICS nations.
India’s chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s people‑centric approach articulated at the 2025 Rio Summit.
The Bhubaneswar meeting follows a series of education‑related engagements, including BRICS Senior Officials’ Meetings in April, the BRICS Network University Conference in July, and the BRICS TVET Symposium in New Delhi earlier this month.
Involving students directly, the Ministry of Education has also conceptualised Model BRICS, a youth‑focused initiative to familiarise young people with diplomacy and multilateral cooperation.
BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, expanded in 2024 to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE, with Indonesia joining in 2025. The grouping now represents one of the largest blocs of emerging economies worldwide.
