A suspected fake currency racket was uncovered in Bhadrak’s bustling Anand Bazaar when two individuals attempted to purchase goods using counterfeit notes.
The incident caused a stir among local traders and led to the arrest of one suspect, with Rs 10,000 worth of fake currency recovered.
The shopkeeper, suspicious of the texture and print of the notes, alerted fellow traders, confirming the currency was counterfeit. While one of the accused managed to flee, the other was caught by vigilant locals and handed over to the police. Authorities suspect that the accused may be part of a larger fake currency network operating in the region.
Local traders have expressed concerns about the growing circulation of counterfeit notes and are urging authorities to strengthen security measures to prevent such fraudulent activities in the future. Police have initiated a thorough investigation and sent the seized counterfeit currency for forensic examination.
