Just hours after Pakistan breached the recently declared ceasefire, the city of Amritsar remains under “red alert” status as a precautionary measure. The district administration issued an early morning advisory on Sunday, urging residents to stay indoors following renewed tensions.
At 5:24 AM, the Amritsar Deputy Commissioner released a public safety message:
“We have restored the power supply for your convenience, but we are still on red alert. Sirens will sound now, indicating this red alert. Please don’t move out of your house; stay indoors and away from the window.”
The city had experienced blackouts on Saturday night amid escalating military tensions and drone threats from across the border. A Reuters image captured the eerie quiet of Amritsar streets during the power outage.
The alert comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India’s military offensive in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, and a subsequent ceasefire that has seen repeated violations by Pakistan. Residents have been asked to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to safety protocols.
