The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public advisory debunking a fraudulent notice circulating online, falsely claiming that all university examinations in India have been cancelled due to a “war-like situation.”
The fake document, widely shared across social media platforms, also urged students to vacate their campuses and return home. However, the UGC swiftly responded, clarifying that the notice is entirely false and warning students against falling victim to misinformation.
In an official statement, the UGC emphasised that all authentic announcements regarding university exams will only be made via its official website and verified social media handles. The commission further cautioned that the deliberate spread of false information is a punishable offence under Indian law.
The misleading notice surfaced in the wake of India’s Operation Sindoor, a series of targeted airstrikes against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Following the operation, Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement in the Bhimber Gali sector, prompting a calibrated response from the Indian Army.
Authorities are urging students and the public to verify all news from trusted sources and report any suspicious activity related to misinformation.
