The Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur, convicted Jayanti Kumari Mohanty, former Counter Assistant at the Red Cross Blood Bank, MKCG Medical College & Hospital, Berhampur.
Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted her under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409, 468, 471, 477-A, and 120-B of the IPC.
Investigators proved that Mohanty misappropriated government money by manipulating duplicate receipts in daily collection slips. She reduced higher figures to lower ones, pocketing the difference. The court sentenced her to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
Odisha Vigilance registered the case after detecting irregularities in the blood bank’s financial records. Mohanty, disengaged from service, had altered receipts to siphon off funds. Vigilance officials collected evidence and filed the charge sheet, leading to her conviction.
Officials emphasised that the conviction reinforces Odisha Vigilance’s commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions. The case highlights the vigilance department’s determination to act against corruption in healthcare services, where financial integrity directly impacts public welfare.
