In a landmark moment for Odisha, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday, becoming the first President of India to share her vision directly with its members. Her speech was deeply emotional, reflecting her personal journey from a small tribal village to the nation’s highest constitutional office.

Calling her address a “homecoming,” President Murmu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to revisit the House where her political journey began. She credited the Assembly for shaping her understanding of public service, stating that it taught her how to engage with people, understand their concerns, and present issues with clarity. “The Odisha Assembly strengthened my foundation, and without the blessings of Lord Jagannath, I would not be where I am today,” she said.

President Murmu celebrated Odisha’s rich cultural and historical legacy, paying tribute to iconic leaders such as Veer Surendra Sai, Laxman Nayak, and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, whose courage and sacrifice played a vital role in India’s freedom struggle. She also highlighted the contributions of the state’s pioneering women leaders, including Rama Devi, Sarala Devi, and Malati Devi, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to social reform and national progress.

Commending Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the President noted that he has undertaken “significant and impactful work” for Odisha within a short period. She emphasised the state’s vast potential for development, pointing to its abundant natural resources, extensive coastline, and strong agricultural base.

Concluding her address, President Murmu outlined a hopeful vision for Odisha’s future—one where the state emerges as a leading contributor to India’s growth. She expressed confidence that by 2036, Odisha can achieve unprecedented prosperity and play a key role in building a developed India by 2047.
