The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with gusty winds over the next seven days.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed all district administrations to remain prepared for any eventuality.
According to the midday bulletin, a depression over east Vidarbha and adjoining Chhattisgarh is moving west‑northwestwards and is likely to weaken gradually. The system has already triggered light to moderate rainfall across most districts, with Mayurbhanj recording heavy showers.
The IMD warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds up to 40 kmph in coastal and interior districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Officials cautioned about localised flooding, waterlogging in urban areas, and minor damage to kutcha roads and crops. The SRC advised people to avoid vulnerable structures and take shelter during thunderstorms.
The bulletin also noted that no major warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days, though vigilance is advised.
