Elon Musk has once again secured his position as the world’s richest person, overtaking Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison after a dramatic few hours on Wednesday.

Ellison briefly topped the Bloomberg Billionaires Index following a historic surge in Oracle’s stock price, which soared 43% intraday before closing 36% higher — its biggest single-day jump since 1992. The rally was triggered by a blockbuster earnings report and a bullish forecast fueled by global demand for AI infrastructure services.

According to Bloomberg, Ellison’s net worth jumped by an unprecedented $89 billion in a single day, peaking at an increase of $101 billion at one point — the largest single-day gain ever recorded on the index. His fortune touched $383.2 billion, temporarily surpassing Musk’s.

But by the end of trading, Musk reclaimed the top spot with a net worth of $384.2 billion, putting him roughly $1 billion ahead of Ellison.

Oracle’s Big Leap

The stock market rally propelled Oracle’s market capitalization to around $922 billion, allowing it to break into the top 10 most valuable companies in the S&P 500, leapfrogging corporate giants like Eli Lilly, Walmart, and JPMorgan Chase.

Musk’s Wealth Streak

Musk has largely dominated the top position on the global rich list since first achieving it in 2021. He briefly lost it to LVMH’s Bernard Arnault in 2021 and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2024, before reclaiming the crown last year. He has now held the No. 1 position for over 300 consecutive days.
