Dhenkanal: The carcass of a tusker was found near Ostapal village under Sadar Forest Range in Dhenkanal district on Sunday.
According to reports, the matter came to the fore after some locals spotted the carcass and alerted the forest department officials about the same.
While the exact cause of the death of the jumbo is yet to be ascertained but it is suspected that the animal might have died due to poisoning.
On being informed, the Forest Department officials visited the spot and seized the carcass.
The ranger said that the cause of death can be ascertained only after post-mortem.
