A 55-year-old woman lost her life after a wild elephant attacked her near Kachhupada village under Rourkela Forest Division on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Yamuna Mahanta, stepped out of her house for open defecation when she suddenly encountered a lone tusker roaming near the village. Before she could escape, the elephant charged at her, knocked her down, and trampled her repeatedly. The impact killed her instantly at the spot.
Panic gripped the village as residents rushed to the scene. Forest officials arrived soon after receiving information and began an investigation into the incident. Authorities confirmed that compensation and assistance will be provided to the grieving family in line with government norms.
