Paradip: A bulk carrier flying the Egyptian flag has been seized at Paradip Port by order of the Orissa High Court over a monetary dispute.
The Paradip Port Authority detained the ship with local police present due to a financial disagreement, following the court’s directive.
The seizure of this vessel, arriving from Bangladesh, occurred shortly after the detention of a Chinese ship at Paradip. The court has mandated the vessel’s arrest pending further instructions. It is reported that the detention resulted from a monetary dispute over the delivery of low-sulphur marine gas oil between a German firm and the ship’s owner.
Sources indicate that the Egyptian vessel, ‘MV Wadi Albostan,’ docked at Paradip on August 6. It is believed that the ship had sailed from Bangladesh and was en route to China, carrying 55,000 metric tons of iron ore.
However, a German company has claimed approximately Rs 4 crore from the ship’s owner and approached the Orissa High Court. The court has since ordered the detention of the bulk carrier and designated the Kujang sub-judge as Marshal to carry out the arrest warrant.
The Kujang sub-judge, in the role of Marshal, together with local and Paradip marine police, apprehended the vessel, barring its departure from Paradip Port.
