The driver of a pickup van was killed after the vehicle was hit by a speeding truck at the Baramunda Overbridge in Bhubaneswar late Wednesday night.
While authorities were managing the aftermath of the first accident, a secondary crash occurred when a trailer struck a police van stationed at the site. The police vehicle sustained significant damage, but fortunately, no personnel were injured.
This incident adds to a string of road accidents in Bhubaneswar in recent days. Just a day prior, three trucks collided near Palasuni Square, leaving one critically injured. In December last year, public outrage erupted at Xavier Square, with residents demanding compensation after a multi-vehicle accident left seven injured.
These recurring incidents underscore an urgent need for stricter traffic regulations and infrastructural upgrades to ensure safer routes in the capital. Police have launched investigations into both accidents, promising a thorough inquiry into the causes.
