Bhubaneswar: Doctors have advised pregnant women to go in for checking as immunity power reduces during the ongoing pandemic. They said pregnant women are more prone to liver-related complications.
Head of the Department of Gynaecology, SCBMCH, Dr Tushar Jyoti Kar, said pregnancy during a coronavirus situation is dangerous for the mother and the child. Dr Kar said monthly check ups and ultrasound must be done without any negligence and added that coronavirus guidelines have to be maintained during such work.
Dr Kar said there is a possibility of premature delivery if the mother is affected by Covid. In such cases, the growth of a child is stunted. He said the SCB has 30 separate beds in the delivery ward and added that these are equipped with ventilators. The district hospitals across Odisha have also special provisions for pregnant women who are affected with coronavirus.
Dr. Kar said lactating mothers are not advised to take coronavirus jab. The women who have been impregnated after taking the first dose of coronavirus vaccine should not take the second dose, he added.
