US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran amid rising tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping corridor.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump accused Iran of attempting to “blackmail” the United States by repeatedly changing its stance on the status of the strait.
‘They Can’t Blackmail Us’: Trump
Trump said that Iran’s shifting decisions regarding the Strait of Hormuz reflect a pattern of strategic pressure tactics.
“We’re talking to them… they wanted to close up the strait again… and they can’t blackmail us,” he stated, while also expressing cautious optimism about ongoing diplomatic engagement.
He added that discussions between the two sides are progressing and that further updates could emerge soon.
Iran Reviewing US Proposals
Iranian authorities confirmed that new proposals from the United States are currently under review.
According to statements from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, negotiations are ongoing, but officials have made it clear that they will safeguard national interests and avoid concessions that could weaken their position.
The development comes amid reports that diplomatic mediation efforts are underway involving regional stakeholders.
Strait of Hormuz: Strategic Flashpoint
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical chokepoints in global trade, with a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passing through it.
Iran’s military leadership indicated that control over the strait would remain “strict” until concerns related to US naval actions and restrictions on Iranian shipping are addressed.
However, later updates from Iranian state media suggested that the situation has stabilised, with the strait returning to normal operational status under close monitoring.
