Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has clarified that he does not want to be drawn into political debates after being asked about the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak controversy.

During a recent Instagram Live session with fans, the popular performer responded to a viewer who requested his opinion on the protest. Diljit said he was unaware of the demonstration and preferred to stay away from political matters.

“What protest is this at Jantar Mantar? Bro, keep me away from these protests and all. I am an artist. I am not a politician,” he said during the live interaction.

Diljit Wishes Both Sides Well

Continuing his response in Punjabi, Diljit said he did not know the details of the protest and extended good wishes to everyone involved.

He remarked that those participating in the protest as well as those against whom it was being held deserved congratulations, adding that he had no knowledge of the issue and did not wish to comment further.

His remarks quickly gained attention on social media, where users shared clips from the livestream and debated his stance on remaining politically neutral.

A Public Figure Who Has Spoken Out Before

Although Diljit chose not to comment on the current protest, he has previously expressed opinions on public issues.

In 2020, the singer openly supported farmers during the nationwide farmers’ protests against the three farm laws. He has also publicly criticised attempts by extremist groups to use his concerts or public appearances to promote their own agendas.

Earlier this year, Diljit dismissed speculation about entering politics after a civil society group urged him to consider a political career.

Responding to the suggestion on social media, he said his role is to entertain people and that he is happy continuing his work in the entertainment industry.

What Is the CJP Protest?

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which began as a satirical digital platform, has been holding demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi since June 20.

The group is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy.

According to its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, the campaign is expected to expand beyond education-related issues and include demands for accountability on other public matters, including electoral reforms.

Diljit’s Recent Work

On the professional front, Diljit Dosanjh was recently seen in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga. The Partition-era romantic drama also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina.

While the film had a modest opening at the box office, it later gained momentum through positive audience reviews and word-of-mouth appreciation.
