After a highly successful theatrical run, Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, premiered on Netflix on Friday. However, the film’s digital release has left many viewers disappointed, with widespread complaints about muted dialogues, censored language, and trimmed scenes.
Soon after the action spy thriller began streaming, social media platforms were flooded with reactions from viewers who claimed that the OTT version was edited despite the film carrying an ‘A’ certification. Many questioned the rationale behind censoring adult content on a subscription-based platform, especially after the film’s uncut theatrical release.
Viewers Object to OTT Cuts
Several users accused Netflix of muting cuss words, altering dialogues, and reducing the runtime by nearly 10 minutes. Fans expressed frustration over what they described as the loss of the film’s “raw and intense” tone.
One viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter), questioning the decision to censor the film:
“Censoring an A-rated film makes no sense. Everyone watching is above 18. Why dilute the experience?”
Others pointed out discrepancies in the runtime, claiming the Netflix version appears to be based on a shortened theatrical cut, further fueling disappointment among audiences who had expected an uncensored OTT release.
Social Media Backlash Grows
Many viewers compared Dhurandhar’s OTT edits with other A-rated films that streamed without cuts, calling the move inconsistent and unfair. Several posts criticised the muting of abusive language, stating that it disrupted the narrative flow and emotional impact of key scenes.
As of now, Netflix India has not issued an official statement addressing the concerns raised by viewers.
