Rourkela: The augmented ICU ventilator facilities at the Ispat Post Graduate Institute (IPGI) and Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) will be dedicated by Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Govt of India, through on-line mode at 11.30 AM on 20th May 2021.
Mr. Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Steel, Govt. of India; Mr. Naba Kishore Das, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Odisha and Mr. JualOram, Hon’ble MP, Sundargarh will also join the online ceremony, along with other dignitaries.
It is worth mentioning here that the IPGI & Super Specialty Hospital Complex was dedicated to the Nation by the Honorable President of India in the august presence of Honorable Governor of Odisha, Honorable Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, and other dignitaries of central and state government on 21st March, 2021. The OPD service was started on 22nd March 2021 with super specialists from Ispat General Hospital, Apollo, Amri, and Kalinga Hospitals. Patients from different places of in and around Rourkela like Sundargarh, Biramitrapur, Rajgangpur as well as neighbouring states like Chhatisgarh, etc. had started availing the OPD facilities at SSH.
However, keeping in view the exponential rise in the number of critically ill COVID patients in the region during the 2nd wave of the pandemic and realizing their urgent need of oxygenation and assisted ventilation, under the guidance of Honorable Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel it was decided to operate a 60 bedded COVID ICU in the hospital with the support of District Administration.
Subsequently to tide over the surge in the COVID cases, as per the instructions of the Hon’ble Minister of PNG & Steel, it was decided to upgrade the facility to a 100-bedded ICU. Accordingly, ventilators were procured by SAIL, RSP on a war footing, and installed in the hospital through M/s NBCC within a month.
Accordingly, 50 ventilators have already been installed in the 4th floor ICU of the hospital, while 10 more have already arrived and will be commissioned shortly. With this, the ventilator strength of the hospital has increased to 100.
The 100- bedded COVID ICU will surely go a long way in providing state-of-the-art health care facilities to the COVID patients and save a number of lives.
