Renowned Odia litterateur Devdas Chhotaray received the Sarala Award for his acclaimed short story collection Matinee Show.

The award ceremony took place in Bhubaneswar, celebrating his contribution to contemporary Odia literature.

The Sarala Award, instituted by IMPaCT (IMFA Charitable Trust), carries a cash prize of ₹7 lakh, along with a citation, a plaque, and an uttariya. Chhotaray’s Matinee Show explores nuanced human emotions and social realities, earning praise for its storytelling depth and cultural resonance. His literary voice continues to shape modern Odia fiction.

The event also honoured two other eminent personalities. Renowned painter Baladev Maharatha and classical music maestro Ramhari Das received the Ila Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman. Each was awarded ₹2.5 lakh in recognition of their artistic excellence and cultural impact.

The Sarala Award remains one of Odisha’s most prestigious literary honours, celebrating writers who elevate the region’s literary heritage. Chhotaray’s recognition reaffirms his stature as a leading figure in Odia literature. His work continues to inspire readers and writers across generations.

The IMPaCT Trust presents the Sarala Award annually, promoting literary and artistic excellence in Odisha. This year’s ceremony highlighted the enduring power of storytelling and the importance of preserving cultural traditions through literature and the arts.
