A high-level meeting was held today at Lok Seva Bhawan to discuss the proposed Kharagpur-Tangi-Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada high-speed corridor, a major greenfield expressway project that will significantly enhance connectivity across eastern India.
Chaired by Principal Secretary of the Works Department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, the meeting focused on the proposed alignment, district-wise coverage, economic zones, urban connectivity, and land acquisition aspects for the Odisha portion of this ambitious 6-lane access-controlled highway.
The corridor, spanning approximately 1,102 km overall across West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, includes a new 522-km greenfield stretch through Odisha. This segment will connect nine districts—Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput—and link 27 towns and cities.
Officials highlighted that the project will seamlessly integrate Odisha’s mining and industrial areas with ports and coastal economic zones, facilitating easier access and boosting regional development. Among the districts, Ganjam will see the longest stretch at 97 km, followed by Dhenkanal (88 km), Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar (86 km each), and Rayagada (53 km).
The corridor is expected to strengthen inter-state linkages, reduce travel times, and provide a new impetus to Odisha’s economic growth by improving logistics for minerals, industries, and trade.
Key attendees included Engineer-in-Chief and Special Secretary Laxmikant Padhi, EIC (Civil & Roads-2) Satyabrat Behera, EIC (Roads-1) Dhyanachand Nayak, Regional Officer from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Sunil Kumar, Chief Engineer (Roads) Shivabrat Taria, Chief Engineer (National Highways) Narayan Patel, and other senior departmental officials.
This review marks a significant step toward finalizing alignments and advancing the project, which promises transformative infrastructure benefits for Odisha and the eastern region.
