Deogarh schools will stay closed until June 20 as the heatwave continues to grip the district. The Collector issued an official order extending the summer closure for all institutions up to Class X.
The directive from the District Education Office emphasises student safety amid soaring temperatures. Examinations scheduled during this period will continue in the morning hours to minimise heat exposure. Heads of institutions must ensure safe drinking water and implement heatwave precautions for students and staff.
The decision follows persistent high temperatures across western Odisha, where several districts have already extended school holidays. Deogarh’s administration aims to protect children from severe heat-related illnesses while maintaining academic schedules.
Officials confirmed that schools will reopen on June 22 if weather conditions improve. The Collector’s office also urged schools to maintain hydration facilities and shaded areas for essential activities.
Parents welcomed the move, citing the unbearable afternoon heat. Teachers have been instructed to adjust exam timings and ensure proper ventilation in classrooms. The extended summer break reflects the administration’s proactive approach to safeguarding health during extreme weather.
