In a significant administrative decision, the historic Jantar Mantar has been officially de-notified as a designated protest venue in New Delhi.
According to a circular issued by the Delhi Police, the move follows recommendations made by a committee constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to establish alternative locations for public demonstrations and citizens’ assemblies.
Three New Alternative Protest Venues
With Jantar Mantar stripped of its long-standing status as the capital’s central site for civil agitations, authorities have designated three alternative venues across the national capital region:
- Ramlila Ground (Central Delhi)
- Burari Ground (North Delhi)
- CBD Ground (East Delhi)
The police circular noted that detailed and revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for organizing protests, rallies, and demonstrations at these newly allocated sites will be released separately. The decision arrives amid heightened political tensions and intense demonstrations across central Delhi concerning electoral roll revisions and institutional controversies.
