A bus tyre burst near Mahipalpur’s Radisson Hotel triggered panic across southwest Delhi on Thursday morning, as the city remains tense following the Red Fort blast earlier this week.
According to Delhi Fire Services, a call was received at 9:19 a.m. reporting a “blast-like” sound near the hotel. In response, three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, after a thorough inspection, officials confirmed that no suspicious object or activity was found.
“During local inquiry, a security guard informed that the rear tyre of a DTC bus heading toward Dhaula Kuan had burst, which caused the loud sound,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel.
Goel further added that the caller who reported the sound confirmed hearing a loud explosion-like noise while traveling to Gurugram, prompting the alert. “We verified everything, and no threat was detected,” he stated.
Delhi Still on Alert After Red Fort Blast
The incident comes just days after a blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening (November 10), which claimed at least 10 lives and injured over 20 others. The explosion, now being treated as a terror incident, has intensified security across the national capital.
The Delhi Police on Thursday confirmed the identity of the Red Fort bomber through DNA testing as Dr. Umar Un Nabi, a 35-year-old Pulwama resident working as an assistant professor at Al-Falah University, Faridabad.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts reportedly matched Nabi’s DNA with samples collected from a severed leg found inside the car used in the blast. His mother’s DNA sample, collected in Pulwama, was used for confirmation.
“FSL experts have given verbal confirmation of the match; the final report is awaited,” said an investigator.
Officials revealed that Nabi had alleged links with Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie and Dr. Adeel Rather, who were arrested last week for stockpiling explosives and arms in Faridabad. The police recovered over 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate, detonators, and assault rifles during the operation.
Security agencies are continuing to trace other suspected members of the module believed to have orchestrated the Red Fort terror attack.
Delhi Police Urges Calm
The DCP (Southwest) assured citizens that the Mahipalpur incident posed no threat and that Delhi remains under heightened security surveillance.
“The situation is normal. There is no cause for concern,” he said.
Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
