New Delhi: The Delhi government on Wednesday made the use of mask compulsory at public places amid a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in the national capital.
Besides, a penalty or fine of Rs 500 will be imposed for not wearing masks in public.
The decision was taken during the meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
In the meeting chaired by the Delhi Lt Governor, it was also decided that schools will not be shut, but a separate Standard Operating Procedure will be issued in consultation with experts.
An official order regarding the mandatory use of masks is expected to be issued by the government soon.
Authorities have been asked to keep a close watch on social gatherings and increase testing in the national capital, sources said.
Delhi on Tuesday logged 632 fresh cases, according to the health bulletin of the Delhi government.
