In a major breakthrough in the gruesome murder of a youth at his girlfriend’s house, Riamal police conducted a crime scene recreation on Friday under tight security.
The prime accused, Narottam Behera, was taken to the spot in Riamal to demonstrate how he allegedly bludgeoned Silu Ray to death with an iron rod before setting his body on fire.
The Incident
The victim, identified as Silu Ray from Babarakota village under Riamal police limits, had reportedly visited his girlfriend’s home in Riamal on Wednesday night. An altercation broke out at the house, during which Narottam attacked Silu with an iron rod, killing him on the spot. In an attempt to destroy evidence, the accused set the body ablaze.
Following the incident, Riamal police detained Silu’s girlfriend, her father Narottama, and her mother for questioning.
Investigation and Confession
The investigation escalated after Silu’s elder brother, Yashodhara Ray, filed a formal police complaint against Silu’s girlfriend, Narottam, her mother, and four others.
During interrogation, Narottam confessed to committing the murder alone. Following his confession, police orchestrated the crime scene recreation in the presence of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dhiraj Chopdar to verify the sequence of events.
Official sources confirmed that the accused is scheduled to be forwarded to court following the completion of preliminary procedural requirements.
