Odisha is set for another spell of rainfall this month with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicating the likely formation of a fresh low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
According to IMD’s North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis, an upper-air cyclonic circulation may develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha between July 10 and July 16. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to form during July 17 to July 23.
If the system develops, Odisha could experience widespread rainfall. IMD has not yet released detailed impact assessments, but the forecast signals another active phase of the monsoon.
Earlier this month, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression, triggering heavy rainfall across Odisha. The downpour raised river water levels and created flood-like conditions in several districts. The upcoming system may bring similar challenges, prompting authorities to monitor developments closely.
Meteorologists emphasised that the fresh low-pressure area will play a crucial role in sustaining monsoon activity across eastern India. Farmers and residents are anticipating relief from the heat, while officials prepare for possible waterlogging and flood management.
