With Cyclone Montha approaching the eastern coast, the Odisha government has cancelled the leave of all government employees in seven districts to ensure effective disaster preparedness and a coordinated emergency response.
Leave Cancelled in Seven Key Districts
According to official sources, the directive applies to employees in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Balasore, and Kendrapara districts.

In Balasore, the District Collector has cancelled all holidays until the situation stabilises.

In Ganjam, officials have been instructed to remain at their headquarters from October 25 to 30.

In Kendrapara, the order is effective from October 26.

In Malkangiri and Koraput, leave has been withdrawn from October 27 to 30, while in Kalahandi and Gajapati, officials will not be granted leave between October 27 and 31.
This measure ensures that adequate manpower and administrative support are available for relief, rescue, and rehabilitation operations in case of any emergency caused by the cyclone.
Officials Directed to Stay at Headquarters
All government personnel in these districts have been asked to report to work as usual and remain at their headquarters during the cyclone period. The state government emphasised that maintaining uninterrupted public services and emergency coordination is vital for the safety of residents.
Red and Orange Alerts Issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red warnings for Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam on October 28, forecasting extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall in these regions.
An orange alert has been issued for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri, where heavy to very heavy rain is likely.
On October 29, red warnings will continue for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Rayagada, while Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir will remain under the orange alert category due to anticipated intense rainfall.
Government Urges Vigilance
Authorities have urged citizens, especially those in low-lying and coastal areas, to stay alert and follow official advisories. Cyclone shelters, control rooms, and emergency teams are being kept on standby to respond promptly to any situation arising from Cyclone Montha.
