The iconic Bali Yatra festival, commemorating Odisha’s ancient maritime legacy, is set to return to Cuttack from November 5 to November 12, 2025, along the banks of the Mahanadi River, the district administration announced on Friday.
The decision was finalized during a preparatory meeting chaired by District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, attended by senior officials and stakeholders. This year’s edition will see significant changes in layout and logistics aimed at improving crowd control and visitor experience.
Unlike previous years, commercial stalls will be restricted to the lower ground near Gadagadia Ghat, while the upper ground will remain free of setups to avoid congestion and coordination issues. The total area for the fair has been expanded from 34 acres to 60 acres, marking one of the largest footprints in the festival’s history.
“The Bali Yatra will be organised exclusively on the lower ground. Using both grounds previously led to coordination challenges,” said Collector Shinde. “This year, the event will also spotlight Odia language and literature, adding cultural depth to the celebration.”
In a bid to enhance accessibility and entertainment, the cultural programs will now continue until 11 PM, an hour later than previous editions. Two performance stages will be set up for celebrity acts, and over 50 buses will operate to facilitate visitor movement.
Authorities have stressed strict adherence to safety protocols and organizational guidelines, ensuring a secure and seamless experience for the lakhs of attendees expected to visit the fair.
