Odisha witnessed a dramatic political protest as Congress leaders, including Youth and Student Congress members, surrounded Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s residence today.
The protest was triggered by the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old woman at Gopalpur Beach, sparking public outrage across the state.
The protestors marched through the city, raising slogans against the state government’s inaction and demanding immediate justice for the victim. Holding placards and chanting slogans, they pressed for stricter security measures and harsher punishment for the accused.
Congress leader stated, “This horrifying incident highlights the failure of the administration in ensuring safety for women. Odisha must strengthen its laws and enforcement to prevent such crimes.”
In response, CM Mohan Charan Majhi condemned the incident, calling it “an utterly inhumane act”, and assured that the government would take swift action against the perpetrators. “We will ensure that justice is delivered and stricter security measures are implemented,” he said.
The incident has intensified political debates, with opposition parties questioning the government’s effectiveness in addressing crimes against women. Odisha Police have launched an investigation, and further updates are expected soon.
As protests continue, citizens await concrete steps from the administration to address growing concerns over women’s safety in the state.
