Tokyo: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar delivered an opening statement at the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting in Tokyo on Monday, emphasizing the importance of reliable partnerships among nations for stability.
“It’s a pleasure to reconvene here in Tokyo. Our previous Quad Foreign Ministers meeting occurred ten months ago in New York. Since then, we’ve engaged bilaterally and at various events. Meanwhile, our Sherpas have maintained ongoing interactions. Today, we have much to discuss, concur upon, and strategize,” he stated. Jaishankar mentioned that the Quad’s dedication to the global good reaches beyond this area.
“Our pledge to contribute to the global good echoes well beyond this region. Hence, our political comprehension must solidify, our economic alliances flourish, our technological cooperations broaden, and our interpersonal connections deepen. This meeting should unequivocally signal that the Quad is committed to enduring, acting, and progressing,” he declared.
Jaishankar acknowledged the current challenging times for ensuring economic growth. “These are trying times. A significant challenge lies in promoting global economic growth while mitigating risks. Supply chains demand particular attention for resilience, as do our efforts towards reliable and transparent digital partnerships. The advancement of technology has reached remarkable scales, influencing the very way we live, think, and operate. We are essentially experiencing a re-globalization,” he remarked.
