Coco Gauff produced a determined comeback to defeat fellow American Jessica Pegula and book her place in the Wimbledon 2026 semi-finals for the first time in her career.
Meanwhile, defending men’s champion Jannik Sinner continued his impressive title defence with a straight-sets victory over Jan-Lennard Struff.
The quarter-final matches were played in challenging hot conditions at the All England Club, with temperatures climbing above 30 degrees Celsius.
Gauff Overcomes Slow Start to Defeat Pegula
The 22-year-old recovered from losing the opening set to claim a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory on Centre Court.
Gauff struggled with double faults early in the contest, allowing Pegula to take the first set. However, the two-time Grand Slam champion regrouped, improved her first-serve percentage and controlled the rallies to complete the comeback.
After converting her first match point, Gauff celebrated by raising her arms as Pegula’s backhand found the net.
Speaking after the match, Gauff credited her confidence in deciding sets.
“When you have that faith in yourself as a competitor, you’re not panicking after losing a set.”
Historic Wimbledon Milestone for Coco Gauff
The victory sends Gauff into her first Wimbledon semi-final after six previous appearances at the All England Club without progressing beyond the fourth round.
According to the WTA Tour, Gauff has also become the youngest player since Maria Sharapova in 2007 to reach the semi-finals at all four Grand Slam tournaments.
She will now face Karolína Muchová of the Czech Republic for a place in the Wimbledon final after Muchová defeated Naomi Osaka 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Sinner Marches Into Semi-Finals
In the men’s draw, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 7-5, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to remain on course for a successful Wimbledon title defence.
After surviving a five-set battle in the opening round, Sinner has now won each of his subsequent matches in straight sets.
Playing in the afternoon heat, the Italian used an ice towel during changeovers to cope with the soaring temperatures but remained in complete control throughout the contest.
Tough Test Awaits Sinner
Sinner will face either Novak Djokovic or Félix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-finals as he looks to secure another Wimbledon final appearance.
Elsewhere, second seed Alexander Zverev completed his delayed fourth-round victory over Jiří Lehečka 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (6) to set up a quarter-final clash against Taylor Fritz.
With the tournament entering its final stages, Wimbledon 2026 continues to deliver high-quality tennis as the world’s top players battle for Grand Slam glory.
