Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi honoured poet and freedom fighter Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra on his birth anniversary at the poet’s statue near the State Assembly.
Majhi offered floral tributes and highlighted Mohapatra’s immense contributions to the Odia language, culture, and literature.
Majhi described Mohapatra as a pioneer of Odia nationality and literature. He praised the poet’s immortal composition “Bande Utkala Janani”, which continues to unite Odias as a symbol of pride and identity. The Chief Minister urged citizens to draw inspiration from Mohapatra’s ideals and commit to enhancing the glory of Odisha.
Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Speaker Surama Padhy, Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi, and several ministers and legislators joined the ceremony. They honoured Mohapatra and acknowledged his enduring role in shaping Odia literature and culture.
Majhi emphasised that Mohapatra’s works will remain memorable forever and continue to inspire generations. He noted that the poet was not merely a writer but a visionary who gave Odias a sense of unity and identity through his literary creations.
The homage reflected a solemn celebration of Mohapatra’s legacy. Leaders reaffirmed his place as one of the most influential figures in Odia cultural history. The event also reminded citizens of the importance of preserving and promoting Odia heritage.
