A drunken man allegedly killed his seven-month-old daughter during a heated argument with his wife in Kantapal village, Dhenkanal district.
The tragedy escalated further when the child’s grieving mother retaliated by stabbing her husband in a fit of rage.
The accused, identified as Sanjay Chhatar, had been living at his in-laws’ house for several months and was reportedly unemployed. On Sunday evening, while returning from a local market, Chhatar got into an altercation with his wife, Janani Munda. In an intoxicated state, he allegedly slammed their infant daughter onto the ground, killing her instantly.
Witnesses reported that a furious Janani attacked Chhatar with a glass bottle, stabbing him in the abdomen. He was rushed to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. Local authorities have launched an investigation, and a forensic team has been deployed to the scene. The baby’s body will be sent for autopsy.
Police officials, led by Inspector-in-Charge Kalpana Behera, are working on uncovering the circumstances leading to this horrifying act. The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence in the region, sparking discussions on mental health and economic stress as contributing factors.
