Chanchal Kumar officially took charge as Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on April 1, 2026.
A 1992-batch IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, he was welcomed by outgoing Secretary Shri Sanjay Jaju and senior officials of the ministry. Shri Jaju has now moved to head the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
Kumar previously served as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the Ministry of Civil Aviation. He also held the position of Managing Director at the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), where he contributed to strategic highway and infrastructure projects.
In Bihar, Kumar worked closely with the Chief Minister as Principal Secretary and Secretary, apart from serving as District Magistrate in multiple districts. His academic credentials include B.Tech and M.Tech degrees from IIT Kanpur and a PhD in Economics from Patna University, equipping him with strong technical and policy expertise.
