The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has urged citizens to adopt digital platforms for booking LPG cylinders, as part of efforts to ensure seamless fuel supply and reduce crowding at distribution centres.
Consumers are advised to avoid visiting LPG distributors unless absolutely necessary and instead rely on online and mobile-based booking systems for faster and safer service.
DAC-Based Delivery System Sees Significant Growth
The government highlighted a sharp rise in Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-enabled LPG deliveries, which have increased from 53% in February 2026 to nearly 90% in early April.
The DAC system is designed to enhance transparency by verifying each delivery through a secure code shared with customers. This mechanism helps prevent diversion of LPG cylinders and ensures that benefits reach genuine users.
Strong Demand for Smaller LPG Cylinders
Demand for 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders has also surged, with over 90,000 units sold in a single day. These smaller cylinders are easily accessible and can be purchased from nearby distributors with valid identification, without requiring address verification.
This initiative supports greater accessibility, particularly for individuals who may not have permanent addresses or formal connections.
Expansion of PNG Connections and New Registrations
Since March 2026, approximately 3.6 lakh new piped natural gas (PNG) connections have been activated, alongside more than 3.9 lakh new LPG customer registrations.
These developments reflect the government’s ongoing push to expand clean cooking fuel access across urban and semi-urban areas.
Fuel Supply and Port Operations Remain Stable
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that port operations across the country are functioning normally, with no reported disruptions involving Indian-flagged vessels.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia. Authorities confirmed the safe return of 345 stranded Indian fishermen from Iran, while over 7.02 lakh passengers have travelled back to India since late February.
The government’s advisory highlights a broader push toward digital adoption and transparency in fuel distribution. With DAC-based deliveries rising and infrastructure expanding, authorities aim to ensure efficient, secure, and accessible energy services for all citizens.
