In a significant move to bolster religious tourism and regional connectivity, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted in-principle approval for a Greenfield airport in Puri.
Also, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted in-principle approval for the development of Greenfield airports in Kota, Rajasthan. This decision, announced by Union Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, marks a significant step toward enhancing air connectivity across India.
Puri, home to the sacred Jagannath Temple, is a key pilgrimage site that attracts millions of devotees each year. The establishment of an airport is expected to ease travel for visitors arriving from major metropolitan cities, reducing reliance on the nearby Bhubaneswar airport and streamlining access for domestic and international tourists.
Beyond its religious significance, Puri is also known for its vibrant cultural festivals, coastal attractions, and heritage sites. The airport will catalyse economic growth, boosting hospitality, local businesses, and infrastructure projects. Additionally, enhanced connectivity can encourage investment opportunities, transforming Puri into a dynamic hub for tourism and commerce.
This initiative is expected to accelerate regional development and integrate Puri into the national aviation network.
Kota, renowned as India’s education hub, particularly for engineering and medical aspirants, will soon have its dedicated airport. The approval follows persistent efforts by Om Birla, Speaker of Lok Sabha and MP from Kota-Bundi, who advocated for better infrastructure to support the city’s growing academic and industrial sectors.
This milestone aligns with the government’s commitment to modernising infrastructure and making air travel more accessible for citizens.
