India launched Census 2027 today, marking the first national headcount in 14 years.
The Home Ministry initiated the process with 33 questions for citizens to answer. The first phase involves self-enumeration, which began today and will continue until midnight on April 15. Citizens can log in to the official portal se.census.gov.in or use the mobile app to submit their details.
Officials confirmed that the Governor’s residence hosted the ceremonial start of the census in the state. Citizens who complete self-enumeration will only need to provide their reference number to census officers during verification.
From April 16 to May 15, enumerators will conduct door-to-door household surveys. They will collect information about housing conditions and primary details from residents. The Census Directorate urged people to provide accurate data to help build a stronger nation.
Authorities clarified that self-enumeration is optional but encouraged. Those who participate early will simplify the verification process. The government emphasised that this census will be digital-first, ensuring faster data collection and improved accuracy.
Meanwhile, officials postponed the Summary Revision of the electoral roll (SIR) scheduled for today due to the census exercise.
