The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted searches at seven locations across Odisha and Rajasthan and arrested three persons in connection with a Rs 2.07-crore ‘digital arrest’ cyber fraud case.
The arrests were made following raids on June 30. The case was registered by the CBI on March 25 on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after a retired public servant was allegedly duped of Rs 2.07 crore by fraudsters impersonating law enforcement and regulatory officials.
The arrested accused are:
- Bibekananda Dixit and Jayant Kumar Acharya, both from Balasore, Odisha
- Kanhaiya Lal from Nagaur, Rajasthan
According to the CBI, the accused played a key role in layering and transferring the proceeds of crime through multiple bank accounts to obscure the money trail. The defrauded amount was allegedly routed into a bank account opened in the name of a trust as part of a complex laundering.
