Norwegian tennis ace Casper Ruud, ranked World No. 16, has officially withdrawn from Wimbledon 2025 owing to a knee injury that has sidelined him from competition since his second-round exit at Roland Garros last month.
Ruud, a two-time French Open finalist, had been battling discomfort for weeks before pulling out of this year’s Mallorca Open as well. Despite making progress in training, his team confirmed that the strain of best-of-five matches at a Grand Slam proved too risky for an early return.
“He’s back on the court, and things are going well,” said his manager, Tina Falster, “but it looks like playing best-of-five sets is unfortunately a bit too soon.”
Ruud’s best performance at Wimbledon has been limited to reaching the second round, achieved thrice in his career. The grass-court major begins June 30, but the 25-year-old will now set his sights on the ATP 250 Swiss Open in Gstaad, scheduled for mid-July.
The withdrawal opens the draw further in what already promises to be a wide-open tournament following several top players struggling with form and injuries. Ruud’s absence will be felt, especially by fans hoping to see him crack the code on grass.
