Authorities are probing the mysterious death of a Border Security Force (BSF) officer, Sanjay Das, aged 39, whose lifeless body was discovered aboard the Gitanjali Express on Thursday night. Originally from Assam, Das had been serving at a BSF camp in Chhattisgarh and was returning to duty after visiting family.

The tragedy unfolded when the train halted at Chakradharpur station around 10:00 PM, where Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel noticed Das lying unconscious in his berth. Acting swiftly, they alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Rourkela.

By 11:30 PM, when the train reached Rourkela railway station, GRP officers boarded and rushed Das to the station’s medical unit. Unfortunately, the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

A post-mortem examination was carried out, and the body has since been handed over to BSF authorities. However, the cause of death remains unclear. Investigators are looking into all possible angles — including medical, criminal, or foul play — to determine what led to the officer’s untimely demise.

“We are pursuing every lead. The facts will be established once the full forensic report is received,” a senior GRP official stated.

Das’ death has sent ripples of grief through his native community in Assam, where he was known as a devoted officer and family man. Loved ones are in mourning, and his BSF colleagues are reportedly shaken by the news.

As investigations continue, the BSF, GRP, and local police are collaborating closely to ensure transparency and justice. The incident adds to the growing concern over passenger safety on Indian trains, particularly for personnel in transit.
