India’s BRICS presidency will see the second technical meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (DRRWG) take place in the spiritual town of Puri from June 3 to 5, 2026.
The high-profile international gathering will be held at the luxurious Taj Puri Resort, bringing together delegates and experts from across BRICS nations.
Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari conducted a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan to ensure seamless organisation. Emphasising the state’s renowned “Atithi Devo Bhava” (Guest is God) spirit, Minister Pujari said Odisha aims to showcase its rich heritage, culture, and globally acclaimed expertise in disaster management while learning from international best practices.
Odisha’s Success Story on the Global Stage
The meeting will focus on strengthening international cooperation in disaster risk reduction, building resilience, and sharing effective strategies for disaster preparedness and response. Delegates from Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UAE, China, and various Indian states are expected to participate.
Odisha has been chosen as the venue because of its outstanding track record in disaster management. The state has earned international praise for its efficient cyclone management, community-based early warning systems, successful rescue operations, and large-scale evacuation models — turning potential disasters into stories of resilience.
Minister Pujari directed officials to ensure zero inconvenience for all delegates and to appoint dedicated liaison officers for each delegation. “This meeting will not only highlight Odisha’s successes but will also project a vibrant and capable image of the state on the world stage,” he added.
The event is expected to inspire global audiences by demonstrating how proactive governance and community participation can significantly reduce disaster risks.
