The Second Technical Meeting of the BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group will take place from June 3 to June 5, 2026, at the Taj Puri Resort in Odisha.
The event marks the first in-person DRR meeting under India’s BRICS Presidency.
BRICS, a major intergovernmental bloc of emerging economies, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, Iran, and Indonesia. Together, these nations represent nearly half the world’s population and over one-third of global GDP.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chaired the first technical meeting virtually in April. The upcoming session in Puri will bring together policymakers, experts, and delegates to strengthen cooperation on disaster resilience.
The theme for the meeting is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” Discussions will focus on sustainable DRR financing, resilient infrastructure, anticipatory response, and integrating traditional knowledge into disaster strategies.
Side events on June 3 will cover community-based governance, multi-hazard early warning systems, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Technical sessions on June 4 and 5 will explore inclusive early warning systems, nature-based solutions, and science-driven approaches to DRR. Delegates will also visit Konark and Ramachandi for field exposure activities.
