Day two of the Bharat Renewable Energy (BRE) Summit and Expo 2026 marked a pivotal milestone in global climate action as India demonstrated its growing status as an international hub for clean energy capital, manufacturing, and tech innovation.
Bringing together delegates from over 130 countries—including more than 40 energy ministers—the summit witnessed high-stakes policy discussions alongside massive investment commitments led by Indian states.
Charting “The Next Terawatt”
A major highlight of the day was “The Next Terawatt” ministerial plenary, a high-level strategic session convened jointly by the International Solar Alliance (ISA), the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), and Energiva Ventures.
Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, and Minister of State Shripad Yesso Naik joined global leaders to outline the architecture for long-term decarbonization.
The plenary zeroed in on four crucial pillars:
- Integrated Planning & Storage: Coupling grid expansion with heavy battery and pumped-hydro energy storage solutions.
- Resilient Infrastructure: Upgrading power transmission networks to support high-density renewable feeds.
- Terawatt-Scale Financing: Mobilizing international public and private capital for large-scale projects.
- Digitalization & AI: Utilizing smart grids and artificial intelligence for reliable, affordable energy dispatch.
These discussions mapped out a concrete trajectory through 2050, reinforcing India’s national mission of achieving Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047.
States Take the Lead: Odisha and Goa Secure Big Investments
The summit proved to be a lucrative platform for regional development. Odisha emerged as the standout star of the day, securing 18 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) totaling a staggering ₹1.17 lakh crore (approximately $14 billion) in proposed investments. The deal signings took place in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, targeting green hydrogen, solar parks, and supply-chain manufacturing.
In another strategic win, Bondada Engineering Ltd. signed an agreement with the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (Goa-IPB) pledging ₹3,000 crore toward renewable energy infrastructure and generation projects across Goa.
International Synergy and Innovation
Thirteen Indian States and Union Territories actively showcased project pipelines, while nine strategic Country Partners—including Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the UK—engaged in bilateral talks to foster tech transfers and cross-border clean energy investments.
Simultaneously, the summit launched Watts Next: Innovators’ Ideas for India’s Energy Security, an invitation-only forum curated alongside BloombergNEF. Industry trailblazers like Sumant Sinha (ReNew), Shreya Mishra (SolarSquare), Girish R. Tanti (Suzlon Group), and Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala (IIT Madras) presented high-impact ideas on policy, finance, and domestic technology stack needed to secure India’s power independence over the next quarter-century.
