A sudden bomb explosion injured two minors in Khajapalli village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district today.
The boys mistook the explosive for a ball while playing near their house.
Fourteen-year-old Om Prakash Bhuyan suffered severe injuries when the bomb exploded in his hand. Doctors at Kodala Community Health Centre provided initial treatment and then shifted him to Berhampur Medical College for advanced care. Eight-year-old Ganesh Bhuyan sustained minor injuries and continues treatment at Kodala CHC.
The incident shocked residents as the children had no idea they were handling a dangerous object. Witnesses said the boys picked up the bomb while playing and tossed it around before it suddenly exploded.
Police from Kabisuryanagar station began investigating the source of the explosive. Officers are trying to determine who placed the bomb in the area and why it was left unattended. Authorities have not yet confirmed the origin of the device.
