The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended all programmes and meetings in honour of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday.
Today, Mayor Sulochana Das, Deputy Mayor, BMC Commissioner, Standing Committee Chairpersons, Addl. Commissioner, Corporators, and BMC officials paid tributes to Dr Manmohan Singh by observing 2 minutes of silence for the departed soul.
Mayor Sulochana Das announced that the corporation observed a condolence meeting and decided to halt all BMC activities during the nationwide seven-day mourning period.
“All officials will be occupied on January 8, 9, and 10 due to the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations. The next corporation meeting has been rescheduled for January 15, where all important issues will be discussed,” she stated.
This week’s Rahagiri event has been cancelled due to the mourning period; however, the next event will take place on the first Sunday of the New Year, Das added.
Additionally, the BMC has planned a handloom walkathon during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, with a proposal already submitted to the government. The goal is to promote Odisha’s handloom products on an international level, she noted.
