Legendary Indian boxer Mary Kom has spoken out about her 2014 biographical film starring Priyanka Chopra, stating that the critically acclaimed movie failed to do justice to her life story and captured only a fraction of her actual hardships.
‘Only 10 Percent of My Hard Work Was Shown’
Reflecting on her journey following her eviction from Bigg Boss Season 20 on October 24, 2026, the Olympic medalist expressed disappointment with how her life was portrayed on the big screen. When asked about a potential sequel, Mary Kom dismissed the idea, pointing readers toward her autobiography instead.
”I don’t think there should be a sequel now; everybody knows my story,” Mary Kom stated. “However, the biopic was not real. I felt some parts of the story were not real. Only 10 percent of my struggle and hard work was shown in it. If you read the book (Unbreakable), only then can you see my struggle and hard work.”
Directed by Omung Kumar, the 2014 film Mary Kom starred Priyanka Chopra in the titular role and won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Despite its commercial success, the boxer feels the film glossed over the true scale of her personal and professional sacrifices.
Reflecting on Her Bigg Boss Stint
Addressing her seven-week stay inside the Bigg Boss house, Mary Kom emphasized that viewers saw her authentic personality rather than a manufactured persona.
”I was not fake. Those who know me very well will know,” she said. “I wanted to show them the person who reached here after working so hard in life. I sacrificed my entire life… You cannot fake it for seven weeks.”
