On the occasion of Mother’s Day, the BJD Women’s Rights Campaign, organised by Biju Mahila Janata Dal, was formally launched today at Sankha Bhawan. On this occasion, Biju Mahila Janata Dal strongly criticised the State Government over the violation of women’s safety and rights, atrocities against women, social insecurity, and the violation of constitutional and political rights of women in the State.
Addressing the press conference held today at Sankha Bhawan, Biju Mahila Janata Dal President Smt. Snehangini Chhuria, MP Smt. Sulata Deo, General Secretary Smt. Geetanjali Bastia, and Vice-President Smt. Swarnalata Samal strongly condemned the anti-women activities of the BJP.
Through virtual mode, Party President and Leader of Opposition Hon’ble Shri Naveen Patnaik joined the gathering and extended Mother’s Day greetings to all women who give life to the world. He stated that the increasing incidents of atrocities against women in the State over the past few days are extremely concerning. Biju Janata Dal is carrying forward the movement initiated by legendary leader Biju Patnaik for the empowerment of women. In 2023, BJD had fully supported the Women’s Reservation Bill. Even before that, the party has taken notable initiatives at the organizational level to bring women forward. Ironically, women still have to fight for their rights while the government remains busy with publicity. Without linking the Women’s Reservation Bill with the Delimitation Bill, women should be given reservation on the basis of the present strength of Lok Sabha seats. BJD has always fought for mothers and women and will continue to do so in the future as well.
This campaign, launched today, will continue across all Assembly Constituencies of the State till May 25. Through such protest BJD will expose before the people the BJP Government’s delaying tactics in providing 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies, as well as its failure to prevent atrocities against women.
President Smt. Snehangini Chhuria elaborately spoke on women empowerment and called upon people to take the voice of protest against the BJP Government’s deception of women and its attempts to mislead people with false information to every household.
MP Smt. Sulata Deo stated that the women of Odisha have resolved not to lose the freedom, equality, and security they achieved through the long struggle and tireless efforts of the BJD Government for the benefit of 2.5 crore women of Odisha.
Senior leader Smt. Kasturi Mahapatra highlighted the unparalleled contribution of legendary leader Biju Patnaik and Naveen Patnaik towards the rights, safety, and empowerment of women.
Similarly, Bhubaneswar Mayor Smt. Sulochana Das said that the BJP Government considers women’s independence as a threat. She called upon women to raise a strong voice through protest assemblies at every Assembly Constituency level.
The gathering was also attended by Dr. Lekhashree Samantsinghar, Smt. Sarmistha Sethi, Dr. Rajashree Mallik, Smt. Sumitra Jena, Dr. Minati Behera, Mayor Smt. Sanghamitra Dalai, Biju Chhatra President Ipsita Sahu, while Dr. Geetanjali Bastia spoke on the occasion of the stage. Thousands of women leaders and workers from across the State joined the gathering through virtual mode.
