Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police has made the installation of IP-level cameras mandatory in major apartments across the city.
The move comes as part of a broader plan to curb rising crime and ensure stronger residential security.
Officials confirmed that apartment welfare societies must install high-quality IP cameras with advanced features, including night vision. The notice also directs societies to provide CCTV footage to the police immediately in case of any incident. Failure to comply will invite legal action.
Police officers explained that criminals remain active in different parts of the city, and coordinated measures are essential to track and apprehend them quickly. Strengthening apartment security forms a key part of this strategy.
The Commissionerate held discussions with apartment welfare societies before issuing the directive. Representatives welcomed the step, saying it will enhance safety and build confidence among residents.
Authorities stressed that footage sharing is critical for investigations. They added that linking apartment cameras with police systems will make crime detection faster and more effective.
The notice applies to residential complexes, apartments, and large housing societies. Police clarified that societies must complete installation within a specified timeframe.
