A comprehensive review meeting on agriculture, horticulture and soil conservation development in the Chilika Assembly constituency was held under the chairmanship of Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan in Bhubaneswar on August 29.
The meeting highlighted the region’s potential for coconut cultivation in Chilika coastal areas and promotion of Banpur moong, known for its taste and quality. Discussions also focused on expanding the Shree Anna scheme, establishing cold storage facilities, and preparing plans for rainwater harvesting and soil conservation.
Minister Harichandan emphasised adopting a coordinated model to elevate agriculture and horticulture to a dignified status. He urged officials to study the soil and climate conditions to identify crops with higher yield potential, including paddy, millets, fruits and vegetables. Priority was also given to organic farming, floriculture, mushroom cultivation, and fodder production.
Officials present, including Khordha District Agriculture Officer Manoranjan Mishra, Horticulture Deputy Director Shreya Saswati, and Soil Conservation Project Director Srushti Nanda, discussed ongoing programs, training camps, and subsidy schemes. They agreed to broaden the scope of agriculture, horticulture and soil conservation initiatives in the constituency.
The Minister advised officers to ensure that state and central government schemes reach farmers effectively, aligning with the vision of building a developed Odisha.
