Police in Bhubaneswar have intensified their investigation into a Love Jihad case involving the accused Irfan Ansari.
Officials confirmed that Sahidnagar police will take him on remand to uncover more details about his activities.
Reports revealed that Irfan trapped an Odia woman by posing as Jayaram Sharma. He allegedly used fake identity documents, including forged Aadhaar cards, and attempted to take the woman to Andhra Pradesh. Police seized his car bearing Andhra registration number AP 29 BV 1480, along with weapons and fake IDs.
Investigators said Irfan established contact with the woman through social media. He introduced himself as Jayaram Sharma, a civil engineering graduate managing his father’s contracting business. Over time, their online conversations developed into a relationship. Later, when the woman discovered his real identity, she resisted his attempts to force her into physical relations and travel outside Odisha.
Police arrested Irfan from a hotel in Sahidnagar on March 8 and produced him in court. Authorities are now probing whether a larger Love Jihad network is involved. They are also investigating his financial motives, as evidence suggests he targeted women with high-paying jobs to exploit them.
The victim, a psychology graduate and air hostess trainee, had earlier worked in Karnataka and Puri, where Irfan maintained contact under his fake identity. Police said they will examine all angles, including his external links and criminal background.
